What are bed bugs?

Bed bugs are small insects that feed on human blood. They like to live near the places where people sleep, such as beds, couches, and recliners. Bed bugs come out at night to feed. After they’ve had a full meal, they return to their hiding places.

In addition to sitting near people as they sleep, bed bugs also like to live in clothes, furniture, and carpets. They don’t really have any other place in the house that will provide them with the food and shelter that they need.

Bed bug bites usually occur in rows of three or four that are red (in contrast to mosquito bites that are mainly located on exposed skin). Bites are often itchy and welt-like in appearance and can be found anywhere from the waist down on different parts of the body.

What do bed bugs look like?

Adult bed bugs have flat bodies about 1/4 of an inch in length. After feeding on blood, they become dark red or brick-colored until their meal is digested after 4-5 days and they return to their brown color. Bed bugs also have a wingspan of 3/16 of an inch when fully grown but cannot fly at all and are not visible to the naked eye without magnification.

Where do bed bugs live?

Bed bugs are typically found in hotels, motels, and apartment complexes that have poor pest control management. These types of establishments have usually been treated by exterminators in the past and are not typically an ideal place for bed bugs to reproduce. It is also possible to pick up bed bugs at a hotel or motel and they can subsequently travel home with you. Bed bugs can also be found in homes, especially if the home has had previous problems with infestation.

How to get rid of bed bugs?

To get rid of bed bugs, you will need to identify the infestation and clean out the affected areas with soap and water or a bed bug spray. Although it may seem difficult to get rid of them completely on your own, there are many tools available to help. If you do not clean up the affected area after getting rid of bed bugs, they may return in as little as a week.

If you want to try to kill bed bugs on your own, there are several products available that you can use in combination. You should start by washing all of your clothes and linens in very hot water for at least 30 minutes. Then, you should buy some bed bug bombs and placed them in affected rooms with the sheets and other items that were used while the infestation.

Bug bombs are formulated to kill bed bugs by being inhaled or by contact with the skin. Over time, they will be taken up by the bugs and slowly destroy their waxy exoskeletons to stop them from feeding. The increased body temperature due to this will also eventually kill the bed bugs.

Does Lavender Help Get Rid of Bed Bugs?

Lavender has been used since ancient times as a natural pesticide. It is thought that lavender’s smell repels pests because it acts as a scent that some pests don’t like to be near. Some research has even been conducted on bed bugs, and one study showed that lavender oil is effective at repelling them.

Lavender essential oil works because bed bugs don’t like the smell of its fragrance. This is because of its ability to act as a natural insect repellent. Lavender oil has other uses too. You can use it to clean your mattress (as it’s non-toxic, you don’t have to worry about leaving any stains behind) or use it as a natural air freshener.

You can purchase lavender oil from numerous different sources. Once you have it in your possession, it’s time to put your newfound knowledge into practice. You have to remember that not all breeds of bed bugs are repelled by the same scents. This means that you may not be able to put lavender oil inside your furniture without attracting them. Lavender oil doesn’t just work on bed bugs; it also works on cockroaches, fleas and moths. If you’re really keen on keeping away pests from your home, then consider purchasing a few different types of essential oils so you can rotate them out every few weeks.

How to Make a Bed Bug Spray: Lavender

1/2 cup of distilled water

5 or 6 drops of lavender essential oil (discard any other oils in this recipe, they are not safe to use on bed bugs)

10 drops of your favorite essential oil (optional)

Combine all ingredients in a spray bottle. Shake before each use. You can also try using some lavender-scented candles. Hang them in high traffic areas for 20 minutes each day, preferably at night when people are sleeping. If non-toxic repellents don’t work, your next option is to buy some pheromone traps from BedBug Central Pest Control & Inspections.
